Whether its creams, serums, or other therapies, there’s a whole burgeoning industry for anti-aging products.

But there are several things that you might be doing on a regular basis that damage your skin far more than aging itself, and cutting back on those activities could provide you the benefits you’re looking for without having to buy expensive products to keep your skin looking young.

Hope Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing has a look at three things that will make you look older than you would like.

  1. Smoking

This one should go without saying, but there are hundreds of toxins in tobacco smoke that harm the inside and outside of your body. Smoking constricts blood vessels, which brings less oxygen and fewer nutrients to your skin. One study comparing twins where one smoked and the other didn’t showed that the twin who smoked had more undereye bags, lip wrinkles, and jowls.

  1. Sun Damage

Not wearing sunscreen can also do a number on your skin, especially if you’re always out in the sun. Besides a sun burn, your skin dries out from too much exposure to the sun. Long-term UV damage can cause premature aging, fine lines, and wrinkles, not to mention a higher risk for skin cancer.

  1. Sleep Deprivation

Sleep is the time that you body uses to renew and repair itself, and your skin is no exception. In addition to the classic dark circles under the eyes, a lack of sleep can affect your skin from head to toe. This study found that women who got the normal seven to nine hours of sleep per night had 30% better skin-barrier recovery than those who slept less than seven hours each night.
