  1. Legumes

Legumes provide people with the protein they need without having to eat too much fatty meat. Beans, peas, lentils, peanuts, and chickpeas not only contain protein but are natural sources of fiber as well, which is better to ingest through food than a supplement or powder.

  1. Eggs

Eggs on their own are high in cholesterol, but studies have shown that they don’t affect the total blood cholesterol numbers all that much. And there are health benefits to eggs—studies found that having an egg per day can reduce the risk of a stroke by around 12%.

  1. Leafy Greens

Spinach, kale, and other varieties of lettuce are high in folate and antioxidants that protect skin, teeth, bones, and even your vision. Like fiber, folate is better for you if it’s taken in through food instead of a supplement.

  1. Fatty Fish

Fatty fish like wild salmon, herring, mackerel, tuna, and sardines are high in omega-3 fatty acids. These healthy fats are good for your overall health, act as antioxidants to reduce inflammation, and can even promote brain health. These fish are also great, healthy sources of protein.
